Meet David Dyer: Overcoming Long COVID and Climbing Kilimanjaro – Insights on Resilience and Chronic Health Management
Hello everyone! I'm David Dyer, and I'm excited to join the InflamMed community as a contributing writer.
My journey through Long COVID and climb to the summit of Kilimanjaro have given me a unique perspective on resilience, recovery, and the human spirit's ability to overcome adversity.
As a CIO/CTO/CTrO, Advisor and mentor, my career has always revolved around driving strategic goals and transformation. However, my personal health journey has transformed my approach, focusing now on the integration of health and wellness into professional and personal life management.
Six months ago, I was given the opportunity to climb Kilimanjaro for charity. Initially doubting my fitness and health post-COVID, I decided to take it as a challenge to test my recovery and resilience. My battle with severe COVID-19 symptoms had led me down a path of chronic health issues, but also to a journey of self-discovery. I learned to listen closely to my body, adapting my diet and lifestyle to combat chronic inflammation which I hypothesised was hindering my recovery. I spoke at great length about my journey with Long COVID during my Q&A with InflamMed.
The climb was not just a physical challenge; it was about reclaiming my narrative and proving to myself that I could overcome the physical and mental scars left by Long COVID. Through a rigorous reevaluation of my diet, lifestyle, and mental resilience, I managed to feel better than I had in years. This journey taught me the importance of self-compassion and the need to adjust life’s pace to one’s current capabilities. Couch to Kilimanjaro in 18 months, kicking Long COVID into touch in the process.
At InflamMed, I look forward to sharing insights on managing chronic conditions like Long COVID, the impact of chronic inflammation on daily life, and the intersection of health and professional success. My articles will focus on my experiences and the lessons learned about fostering resilience, both mentally and physically.
I am also passionate about addressing the often overlooked aspects of chronic conditions in the workplace and how individuals and companies can better understand and support those affected.
Thank you for welcoming me into this vibrant community. I am eager to connect with you all, share my story, and learn from yours as well.
Looking forward to our conversations,
David Dyer
